Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Princess Kako may attend the opening ceremony. For Taiwan, Hsieh Chang-ting, representative in Japan, and Gong Mingxin, chairman of the National Development Council, may attend.
Since Japanese automaker Toyota has also joined the Kumamoto plant in TSMC’s joint venture with Japanese companies, Toyota may also send senior managers to attend.
TSMC’s Kumamoto plant will start construction in April 2022 and be completed one year and eight months later.
Semiconductor supply chain sources said that the Kumamoto plant is of great significance to both Taiwan and Japan. Japan hopes to attract TSMC, Intel, and Samsung to invest and set up factories in Japan, but only TSMC has the strength to implement it.
