Witnesses of a giant ceiling fan wounding accident at a coffee shop on 21st Street in Tampines stated that the 20-year-old injured was physically protecting the 82-year-old woman believed to be his grandmother. She was cut on the back of her head with blood flowing.
The accident occurred at the coffee shop downstairs of Block 201 on 21st Street in Tampines at around 7:10 last night (28th). The giant ceiling fan inside the coffee shop was suspected to collide with a long ladder and the fan blades fell. A 20-year-old young man and an 82-year-old woman were injured and rushed to Changi General Hospital in a sober state.
After witnessing the whole process, Darren told Singapore’s “8 Horizons News” that he went to the coffee shop to pack dinner at about 6:45 last night. After picking up the meal, he was about to ride away when he heard a loud noise.
“All this happened within two or three seconds. A huge broken blade hit the young man and the old woman sitting next to him. At that time, the fan blade of the ceiling fan was still rotating, and the fragments were flying everywhere. Just as everyone was rushing to escape. When they were out of the danger zone, the young man hugged the old woman to protect her. Fortunately, they were not hit again. Others later dragged them away.”
He pointed out that the old woman believed she was hit by a fan and injured her head. The young man was hit in the back of the head, bleeding his head.
Darren revealed that the youth was very angry at the time and shouted to an uncle who came forward to check the situation. “I advised him to calm down, so as not to increase his blood pressure due to his excitement. More blood would flow to his head and worsen the bleeding.
According to his observations, there was also a woman who ate at the same table with the young and old women, believed to be three generations. The woman then hugged the young man’s head, and the female assistant at the coffee shop’s beverage booth also brought some tissues to cover the young man’s wound.
“Fortunately, when she did this, I almost had to press his wound with my hands, because it was really blood flowing.”
Someone from a nearby store then brought a piece of cloth sold in the store to help stop the bleeding. When interviewed, the employee said that he heard a loud noise and found someone injured when he came out to check. “Our shop happened to sell cloth, so I took it out and gave them to help stop the bleeding. If we see someone injured, how can we not help.”
