Russian Drone Targets Train in Northern Ukraine; 1 Dead, Dozens Hurt

《Singapore Daily News Oct 4 》 A Russian drone strike hit a passenger train at Shostka station in Ukraine’s northern Sumy region, killing one person and injuring over 30 others, according to Ukrainian officials.

Regional Governor Oleh Hryhorov reported that the train had just arrived at the station when it was struck. The blast shattered windows and caused significant damage to several train cars, injuring dozens of passengers with flying debris and shockwaves.

Ukrainian authorities accuse Russia of employing a “double-tap” tactic — launching a second strike aimed at rescue teams and civilians responding to the initial attack.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the assault on social media, calling it a “deliberate attack on civilians” and urged the international community to hold Russia accountable.

All injured have been transported to nearby hospitals. Ukrainian Railways is currently assessing the extent of infrastructure damage and coordinating with local authorities.

The incident highlights Russia’s increasing focus on targeting Ukraine’s transportation infrastructure, particularly in border regions like Sumy, raising concerns about civilian safety and logistics.
