《TodayAsiaNews Oct 3》In response to recent U.S. criticisms targeting China in areas such as trade, technology, and Taiwan affairs, the China Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a clear reply at a regular press briefing.
A spokesperson said that the U.S. has repeatedly cited national security, unfair trade practices, and excess capacity as justifications for pressuring China, imposing tariffs, and instituting sanctions. This approach, disguised under the mantle of “victimhood,” amounts to exercising hegemony and strays from international norms. China’s legitimate and lawful economic cooperation should not be politicized or stigmatized.
The spokesperson emphasized that China has always advocated for resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, not confrontation or coercion. China is willing to engage with the U.S. in proper trade negotiations on a basis of mutual respect, equality, and shared benefit—but such negotiations must respect each side’s core interests and legitimate concerns.
Regarding U.S. criticisms on Taiwan, the South China Sea, and technology export controls, China reaffirmed that the Taiwan issue is a core interest in its sovereignty and any interference constitutes an infringement; that legitimate South China Sea rights must be respected; and that technology and industrial policies fall within national sovereignty and must not be subject to external interference. China will continue to resolutely defend its lawful rights and interests and respond with appropriate measures as needed.
The Foreign Ministry also stressed that protectionism, unilateralism, and a “U.S.-centered” view of global order are untenable. The world needs rules-based, open, and inclusive global economic governance—not dominance by the powerful or arbitrary policy. China will persist in promoting multilateralism and safeguarding the stability of the international trade system.
