Singapore Influencer Sentenced to Curfew and Electronic Monitoring for Shoplifting Worth

《Singapore Daily News Sep 23》A 30-year-old social media influencer from Singapore, Genie Yamaguchi, has been sentenced to wear an electronic monitoring device and observe a nightly curfew after admitting to shoplifting items worth over S$600 from Don Don Donki.

Yamaguchi was given a three-month Day Reporting Order (DRO), a community-based sentence that requires her to report regularly to a supervision center and stay home between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. This penalty allows her to avoid imprisonment or a monetary fine.

Yamaguchi, who runs a preserved flower business and a beauty clinic, pleaded guilty to stealing 27 items — including beauty products, food, and bags — valued at S$628.90. She has since repaid the store for the stolen goods.

The offense occurred on August 25 at around 2:30 a.m., when Yamaguchi and her friend, Lee Suet Keay Cheryl, shoplifted from Don Don Donki’s Orchard Central outlet. Among the items taken were a Sanrio tote bag worth S$67.90, Colorrose Queen’s Cameo Blush priced at S$30.90, and several Melano CC Brightening Essences valued at S$25 each. They exited the 24-hour store without paying, but a staff member later identified them through CCTV footage, leading to their arrest on September 3.

Despite having no previous criminal record, Yamaguchi faced court proceedings. Given her cooperation and clean background, the prosecution recommended a DRO. Her lawyer, Joyce Khoo, stated in court on September 23 that Yamaguchi sincerely regrets her actions and is committed to not reoffending. Yamaguchi has not made any public comments on the matter.

The DRO includes mandatory counseling and rehabilitation sessions aimed at preventing future offenses.
