US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan, and Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said last night that the Chinese Communist Party was on high alert and would launch “a series of targeted military operations to counter it.”

According to the official Weibo account of China’s Ministry of National Defense, Wu Qian claimed, “The Chinese side has repeatedly stated the serious consequences of visiting Taiwan, but Pelosi knowingly and maliciously provoked a crisis and seriously violated the one-China principle. The three Sino-US joint communiqués have seriously impacted the political foundation of Sino-US relations and seriously damaged the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.”

Wu Qian claimed that the US move sent a serious wrong signal to the “Taiwan independence separatist forces” and further escalated tensions across the Taiwan Strait. The “DPP authorities” rely on foreign self-respect, collude with external forces to cause chaos, and insist on inviting Pelosi to visit Taiwan. Their actions are very dangerous and will inevitably lead to serious consequences.

Wu Qian said that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army is on high alert and will launch a series of targeted military operations to counter it, “resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely thwart external interference and Taiwan independence separatist attempts.”

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office also issued a statement in the evening, claiming that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was an “escalation of Taiwan-US collusion, with a very bad nature and very serious consequences.”
