Taiwan’s UMC pleads guilty in the United States and promises to assist in the investigation of mainland chip companies to mitigate guilt

When the mainland chip company Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co., Ltd. was included in the “Entity List” by the US Department of Commerce for two years, its former partner, Taiwan Lianhua Electronics, pleaded guilty in the United States.

On October 28, local time, UMC pleaded guilty to stealing trade secrets in the San Francisco Federal Court and agreed to pay a fine of 60 million yuan. In order to escape the more serious accusations made by the US, including economic espionage, in exchange, Taiwan UMC promised to provide “substantial assistance” to assist the US government in investigating Fujian Jinhua.
