Singapore and Malaysia sign agreement on Long Causeway

The signing ceremony of the Malaysian RTS System (RTS) was completed this morning under the witness of the leaders of the two countries. After discussion, the two parties agreed to change the project to a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, but the one-way traffic capacity will remain at 10,000 people per hour. The Thomson-East Coast Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT) was initially scheduled for use and will be changed to light rail.

Malaysia and Singapore issued a joint statement today, stating that the BTS system project was suspended on April 1st last year at the request of our country to allow our country time to review the content of the project. After discussion between the two parties, some adjustments were made to the Roxin MRT system project.

The statement stated that the Roxin MRT system will no longer use the existing Singapore Mandai repair and operation station, but will establish a new repair and operation station in Wadihana, Johor Bahru. Malaysia’s Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka-siang and Singapore’s Transport Minister Wang Yikang signed the agreement on the Xinrou Long Causeway this morning. Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the agreement.

Other attendees included Datuk Seri Azmin, Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Azmin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin, Minister of State of Johor Datuk Hasni, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore. Vivin, former Minister of Infrastructure Coordinator and Minister of Transportation Xu Wenyuan.
