The news spread on the Internet that Taiwan’s former President Lee Teng-hui passed away. The Taipei Veterans General Hospital clarified that Lee Teng-hui is still in treatment.
The news of Lee Teng-hui’s death began to circulate yesterday (28th). The Taiwan Solidarity Alliance founded by Lee Teng-hui clarified through the social networking site Facebook that this is false news. Taipei Veterans General Hospital also stated that Lee Teng-hui is indeed in poor health, but he is still receiving treatment in the hospital.
Taiwan media reported that Vice President Lai Qingde cancelled his work schedule this morning (29th) and went to the hospital to visit Lee Teng-hui.
The 98-year-old Lee Teng-hui has been in unstable health in recent years. He was admitted to the hospital in February this year because of water in the lungs and has not been discharged yet.
