No need to apply for video shooting, so the government will amend outdated laws

Malaysian Minister of Communications and Multimedia Saifuddin issued a statement today, reiterating yesterday’s statement that the National League government has no intention to use the Film Development Agency Act to restrict personal freedom in social media. Therefore, the relevant bill should be amended.

The Minister emphasized that the Cabinet has reached agreement on the following items:

The government emphasizes its position and encourages media freedom and individual rights as well as freedom on social platforms.

Social media users can freely use existing platforms, such as TikTok, YouTube, etc., including routine production and video upload, without having to apply for a license or worry about being sued by the National Film Development Agency.

According to the current situation, the government will amend the "Malaysia National Film Development Authority Act 1981" (Act 244).

The Minister reiterated that the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia has begun to amend the law to ensure compliance with the current situation.

The government will make changes in the shortest possible time.
